Comb Workshops
—
As part of a wider public artwork commission from Bethlem Gallery and SLAM, to gain insight of the lived experience of service users, Izzy ran workshops on the acute wards at Lambeth hospital to make their own wooden hair comb.
To ensure the workshops were inclusive Izzy worked with Afro hair consultant David Glean to design wooden combs that could be used in Afro, Asian & Caucasian hair types. The wood was sourced from felled urban trees from London.
During the workshops they shared food and music, while making a hair comb discussing themes of self-care for building resilience and how your environment can influence our mood. She commissioned Marlan Henry to photograph the workshops.
